1. Who We Are
Me Man Ghana (My Country Ghana) is a cultural education platform dedicated to preserving and sharing Ghanaian heritage — its history, languages, folktales, festivals, arts, and traditions — with people around the world. We operate this website and the associated mobile experiences as a mission-driven service.
When this policy says "Me Man Ghana (My Country Ghana)", "we", "us", or "our", it refers to the organisation running the platform. For any privacy-related question or request, contact us at privacy@memanghana.com.
2. What We Collect
We collect information in the following categories:
- Account data — your display name, email address, and a securely hashed version of your password when you register for an account.
- Learning progress — quiz scores, articles read, modules completed, and time spent on content so we can personalise your experience.
- Bookmarks and saves — content you explicitly save or bookmark within the platform.
- Comments and submissions — any content you post in community areas or submit for editorial review.
- Device and connection data — browser type, operating system, IP address, and referring URL collected automatically when you visit the site.
- Usage analytics — page views, clicks, and navigation paths to understand how the platform is used and where we can improve.
We do not collect payment card information directly; any future payment processing is handled entirely by certified third-party processors.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate your sessions.
- To personalise content recommendations based on your learning history and preferences.
- To send you progress updates, course completions, and digest emails (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To improve the quality and relevance of our cultural content.
- To respond to support requests and account queries.
- To detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity.
- To fulfil legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Cloudinary — we use Cloudinary to host and serve images and media. Content you view or upload may pass through their CDN. Cloudinary acts as a data processor under a signed data processing agreement.
- Analytics tools — we may use privacy-respecting analytics services to understand aggregate usage patterns. Where used, data is anonymised and not linked to individual identities without your consent.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority in a jurisdiction with valid jurisdiction over our operations.
We assess service providers before use, restrict their access to what is needed, and require appropriate privacy and security commitments. Their own policies may also apply when you choose to open an external service.
5. Lawful Reasons and International Transfers
We process information to provide the service you request, meet legal obligations, protect the platform and its users, and pursue legitimate interests such as improving cultural education. Where consent is required, you may withdraw it. Some providers may process data outside Ghana; we use appropriate contractual and security safeguards where required.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated personal data.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
You can export or delete account data from your profile. You may also email privacy@memanghana.com with the subject line "Privacy Request". We may need to verify your identity and will respond within the period required by applicable law.
7. Cookies
We use cookies and local storage to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. For full details on the specific cookies we set and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.
8. Security and Data Retention
We use access controls, encryption in transit, password hashing, session protection, audit logging and restricted administrative access. No system is completely risk-free. We retain account data while the account is active and remove or anonymise it after deletion, except for limited records required for security, dispute resolution or law. Anonymised statistics may be retained because they no longer identify you.
9. Children
The standard account service is for people aged 13 and older. Kids Arena is designed for supervised use without a child account. We do not knowingly ask a child under 13 to provide personal data. Parents and guardians should read our Children's Privacy Notice. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Complaints and Contact
For privacy inquiries, data requests, or concerns about how we handle your information, please reach us at privacy@memanghana.com.
You may also have the right to complain to the data protection authority responsible for your location, including Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
